Everyone has birthday, and so do I. But mine is not my exact birthday,
because my mom did not remember the day when I was born. In Cambodia,
countryside people do not always celebrate birthdays for their children
(it is not a culture), but we do for our elder people such as grandpa or
grandma (only rich people). But in the city (Phnom Penh or town) they
celebrate birthdays as part of the western culture.
I was sent
into an orphanage since I was about 11(1999). Around 2007 my orphanage
started to celebrate birthdays for children. It is like this, all the
children who were born in a same month would come out in-front and we
would have a birthday cake and sing for them. We would also announce the
top 5 students from school and give away some presents to them. Since
then, I have been celebrating my birthday and i enjoy it very much.
This year (2013) my birthday was very quiet. I turned off my birthday
date on facebook and then i did not celebrate anything. I went to my
sister's house, my ex-girlfriend called to from Korea and a few friends
who know me well sent some messages to me. On the same day (3rd Jan
2013) I went out to eat ice-cream (it is one of my favorite) at Soriya
Shopping Center and I went there to see people (it is one of my hobby). I
bought an ice-cream on the ground floor and came out to sit. While i
was sitting i was thinking about myself, about my future, about my
dreams. While i was eating, there was a boy who came to me and asked me
for ice-cream (can i have that ice-cream?). Most of beggars will beg for
money, but i was wonder why this boy wanted my ice-cream, so i passed
it to him and he went out.
There are more poor people over in
Cambodia. Keep praying for them, they need cloths, foods, shelters ... I
know that everywhere, every country has this kind of problem, and it
makes me think about Somalia or other African countries too. Please join
hands to pray, because our God is big enough to help us.
